E.V. Day

I tend to gravitate towards artists that utilize or reference the body.. themes of desire.. the sensuous.. the grotesque.. body politics.. E.V. Day is one of my contemporary favorites as of late. What I am particularly fond of though is her pieces that utilize garments (imagine that).. These garments that are loaded in symbolism and situated in space, pulled in unnatural direction from various points via mechanism, fiberglass, resin, etc.. to create these abstracted forms, like an expressionist painting suspended three dimensionally.. but better.. because it isn't JUST about form.. it is conceptually loaded, playful, and sexually charged.  Images to follow, first image being from her earlier Tongue and Clam series.. not my favorite, but is visceral and striking in its own right.
